The Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) has officially implemented a new policy in the tax administration system through the Coretax platform.
The use of the National Identification Number (NIK) as the Taxpayer Identification Number (NPWP) in the Coretax system is part of an effort to modernize and simplify tax administration in Indonesia.
The Coretax system now uses a 16-digit NPWP format. For individual taxpayers who are Indonesian residents, this new format utilizes their NIK.
Meanwhile, for business entities, government institutions, and non-resident individuals who previously had the old 15-digit NPWP format, they simply need to add a β0β in front of their existing NPWP.
This change aims to improve efficiency and integrate tax data with the national population database.
DJP has previously reminded taxpayers that they must match their NIK and NPWP at the nearest tax office before accessing Coretax DJP.
“After completing the NIK-NPWP matching process, taxpayers can reset their password to access Coretax DJP,” according to a DJP document (January 21, 2025).Once successfully logged into the Coretax system, taxpayers are advised to take a crucial stepβverifying their profile data, especially the responsible party information recorded in the system.
