Following the implementation of the Coretax system for Annual Tax Return (SPT) reporting, a new trend has emerged: the growing use of paid “jockey” services to assist taxpayers with filing.
Based on observations across social media platforms such as Threads and X, many individuals and service providers are offering assistance for SPT reporting. The services vary, ranging from DJP account activation and authorization code setup to full Annual Tax Return filing. Some even offer filing services with a “nil” status, meaning no tax underpayment or overpayment.
These services are not only promoted through social media but also via dedicated websites. Prices typically start from IDR 300,000 per filing, with the entire process conducted online, often through platforms like WhatsApp.
Why Are Coretax Jockey Services Emerging?
Minister of Finance, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, stated that the rise of Coretax “jockey” services is largely driven by the current system’s complexity. The difficulty in using the system has created a business opportunity for third parties to offer paid assistance.
He acknowledged that Coretax is not yet user-friendly for the general public. As a result, many taxpayers feel the need to rely on external help. The government, however, has committed to improving the system to ensure that, in the future, taxpayers can file independently without needing such services.
The Need for More Extensive Public Education
Meanwhile, Member of Commission XI of the House of Representatives, Puteri Komarudin, highlighted that some parties are taking advantage of public confusion by offering paid services.
She emphasized the importance of more comprehensive and widespread education from the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP). This includes clearer guidance on Coretax features, filing procedures, and how to handle situations such as overpayment, underpayment, and tax objections. With better and more accessible education, taxpayers are expected to be able to file their Annual Tax Returns independently, while also reducing the risk of exploitation by irresponsible parties.
